It has been the endeavor of the Ministry of Tourism to put in place a system of training and professional education with necessary infrastructural support capable of generating manpower, sufficient to meet the needs of the tourism and hospitality industry both quantitatively and qualitatively. The Ministry of Tourism, a branch of the Government of India, is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules, regulations & laws related to the development and promotion of tourism in India. They have setup institutions as autonomous society with the specific mandate to impart education in the field of Tourism and Travel and Hospitality as well as Education/Training in Hospitality Skills. Ministry of Tourism has also extended its support to establish institutes that impart training in adventure sports to the adventure enthusiasts.
National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM) are the apex bodies for designing the training programs related to Hospitality & Administration as well as Tourism & Travel Management respectively.
Nearly, 94 Institutes/Bodies including Ministry of Tourism and NCHMCT will use the services offered by the Institute Management System. Basically institutes will use the services of the IMS to manage their day-to-day activities pertaining to academics, administration and operations. Management of Institutes will use the MIS Reports to make informed decisions, which will help achieve the goals. IITTM Head Office and NCHMCT will use the affiliate services that will help define the course curriculum, teaching schemes, handling examination and issue of Degree/ Diploma/Certificates etc. Ministry of Tourism, being the apex body will use this system for monitoring the overall operations of the Institutes. The various reports generated from the academic and operational activities will be analyzed through statistical methods, so that the Ministry of Tourism can understand the funding required for the Institutes including setting up new institute and expansion of existing infrastructure, bailout packages required for sick institute, forecasting and projections for meeting the ever increasing demand of specialized human resources in the field of Hospitality & Administration and Tourism & Travel sectors.
Proposed Institute Management System will be a web based application and shall be hosted on the Central Server. It will be an intra-institute ERP solution encompassing various academic as well as administration related activities. Access to IMS will be role based. Every user will be assigned a role to perform and will be allotted username and password to access the system. Users can receive real-time data updates, and can even retrieve data from any part of the country/globe with this system. There will be top level Administration i.e. Super Administrator who will create Institute level Administrators. These Institute Administrators will create users and then assign/revoke roles. Username and password will be communicated to user by their respective Institute Administrator. The very first page will be the login page where user can enter the username and password and after successful log in and user will land at designated page from where he can use features depending upon the role assigned to him. All unsuccessful login will be recorded as invalid entry and after five such attempts the system will deny the access and display a warning. At this stage system will require a fresh password issued by the System Administrator. Log in access will be monitored by Super Administrator and the respective Institute Administrators.
