Scope of SEO in India

Monday, June 30th, 2008

SEO which is commonly known as Search Engine Optimization is meant to increase the visibility of the website. For a commercial website it means a lot. If your website is not getting traffic, means that website is not getting visitors and it directly means that website is not able to sale any thing. Just because a website is not getting visitor it won’t be able to fulfill the desire of its owner.

Hence, a website is always requiring visitors and for that we will have to do the search engine optimization of that website, so that visitors can come to the website and we can convert them into customers.

When I first started doing search engine optimization in year 2004, the term SEO was not well known to me. I was not at all aware from it. Like me, there were so many people around me who even don’t know what is the word SEO means. Even today some people asks me is it Senior Executive Officer, as if CEO means Chief Executive Officer.

Hence we can say that SEO is not a well known term in India even today, but yes after three years I can see a huge difference. Most of the people who are using internet for any means are a bit aware from it. A few years ago, there were so many people who are not even aware from websites. Then comes the world of net banking, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank etc. played a huge role in increasing the role of internet in common people. Also social network sites like Orkut played an important role in increasing the usability of internet in India.

Now an era has arrived when people are looking for there own websites, and they are also aware from the fact that it should have good visibility too. Hence, demand of website design and development and SEO is increasing day by day. As the number of websites will increase demand for SEO will also increase. Hence, I can see a good prospect of search engine optimization in India in near future.

Also from the market point of view, work of SEO is quite costly in western countries, and it is quite cheaper in India. Hence, people are use to outsource there work to India. They use to take work from there and then outsource it to India so that they can get the work done in a cheaper rate, and they can get good cost for it. Hence, scope of SEO in India in near future is quite good.

Tips To Increase Website Traffic

Friday, June 27th, 2008

All websites need visitors to be successful, but just getting any old traffic isn’t enough. To be really successful, you need targeted traffic (eg. visitors come to your website with the intention of buying, or performing a specific action like subscribing to your list).

To increase targeted website traffic, careful planning is needed. Simply getting your website into the search engines isn’t enough these days. Neither is buying a ton of email addresses and hoping enough people respond to an email blast. Those days are long gone.

Optimizing your website for search engines using the correct keywords is crucial. You want visitors to find your website after searching on the most important keywords related to your website.

Learn to use keyword research tools to find the most relevant keywords. This is very important. If you do not own a software tool like Ad Word Analyzer or have a membership to Wordtracker, then I suggest you use the Keyword Tool inside Google AdWords.

Make good use of meta tags with keywords in the page title and description. You also need to use these same keywords are on your web pages. Just don’t go overboard here. Make your pages look ‘natural’ and keep the theme of your website content consistent.

Google and other search engines main goal is to display the most relevant search results for a given search term by ranking websites that have a tight theme relevance across the entire site.

If you set your website up the right way, when search engines find your website, they will know it is worth listing and index it right away.

Now, you may consider adding a blog to your website to feed the search engines more content. Blog posts gets indexed quickly (search engines love them), so posting to a blog as often as possible is a great way to increase targeted web site traffic.

Likewise, RSS feeds are helpful too. RSS lets people know about the latest updates without them needing to seek out the information. Plus, since the content changes each and every day, you can count on receiving more frequent visits from search engine spiders.

Getting links to your website is also important. However, don’t go requesting them randomly all over the place. Choose websites that relate to your content as Google factors that in these days. Once again, focus on the theme of your website and choose link partners accordingly.

Optionally, quality links can also be gained from writing and submitting articles to websites like EzineArticles.com. There is even software to submit your aticles to hundreds of article directories in a matter of minutes.

Writing an article related to your website’s content will result in more visitors to your website and a nice boost in link popularity. This is one of the easiest and most affordable strategies you can do to get better results.

In summary, the key to succeeding in this new age of search falls on quality. Websites that provide useful and relevant content will succeed. Those webmasters that cut corners will most likely end up nowehere to be found in the search results.

If you want to build a perfectly-structured, highly-optimized website or revamp your existing website, there is a new software tool that recently came out called SiloMatic.

SiloMatic makes sure all of your web pages are properly structured to rank high on Google and other major search engines. It will also link all the web pages correctly to prevent theme bleeding, which is vital for top rankings.

Better Software Foundations

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I visited the ruins of a Roman settlement, the other day that was set in a lovely valley in the middle of an island.

The setting was idyllic, sheltered from the winds and not too far from the main market town, it seemed an ideal spot to farm and bring up a family.

Its history was thoughtfully provided on signs around the ruins of a substantial dwelling, which had been expanded in Roman times to include a hot and cold bathroom and mosaic floors. All of this was very attractive and a considerable investment for the landowner. But the settlement was abandoned, and it occurred to me that there had to be a good reason since it was clear that someone had put a lot of effort and finance into their dream.

I wondered if Vikings, who were known to be active in this area after the Romans left, had attacked it but there were no signs of charred brick work or the aftermath of battle.

Looking around another sign revealed the problem. There had been more than one attempt to settle the area, but the land formed a natural point of drainage for the hills around, and successive buildings had each eventually succumbed to subsidence.

I was left in no doubt that the buildings were of a good quality and that the builders were competent at construction, but clearly it had taken a few generations to work out that this was not a suitable site for construction. If we really wanted to settle this place now we would drive piles deep into the ground to overcome the subsidence.

The point that this drove into my mind was that of developing software. It is all too often the case that Software development organizations and their customers make the same mistakes over again. If the foundations are shaky then there is no point in building, but with a little forethought someone will could solve the problem and provide a safe way of delivering a good foundation.

The biggest mistake that organizations make is to rush to cut code before they understand the problem they are solving. That doesn’t mean you have to be complacent and that sitting around in a few meetings will solve all your problems.

What should be done is: -

Ring fence what you know.
Ring fence what you don’t know.
Make sure you are developing the right product.
Build the software that you know will not change.
Check that what you are building is what is wanted.

Often the customer just doesn’t know exactly what they want, so you need to involve them in the development process. The earlier they get to know the product then the more likely they are to buy into the solution. Having said all of that..

Code should be built where it enhances the understanding of the problem both to the customer and the developer.

Black & White Hat SEO and Why They Both Suck

Black & White Hat SEO and Why They Both Suck

A black hat is the villain or bad guy in an old western movie. He is the character wearing a black hat in contrast to the hero’s white hat. The phrase is often used figuratively, especially in SEO slang, where it refers to a technique that breaks search engine rules. Google says that white hat SEO is someone that would write copy, give advice on site architecture and help in finding relevant directories to which a site can be submitted. Anything else would be black hat.

While copy is very important, without links going to that copy, no one will ever find it or read it. And no matter how good the site architecture is, without some outside influences it want make any difference. And I am all for submitting sites to directories but the truth of the matter is, they have very little affect on getting a site to rank.

Here’s my two cents on white hat and black hat.

White Hat SEO

A white hat SEO charges you money and gives you very little in return. At best you get a website where they have optimized your copy and then submitted to the online directories as well as set up a good internal linking structure. All of this is important but it is not going to over flow your pockets with cash.

Black Hat SEO

Depending on how black they get, it can get very dark. They can build you a list of 50,000 keywords, put a bot together that grabs text from different sites, mixes it up, making it unique and then builds a page for each of those keywords, optimized for the search engines, over night. They have blogs and other cloaked sites as well as a site set up on every free hosting site online in place for linking to these sites. They can have you tons of good traffic coming to your site over night. You can be making money in a week’s time, if you have a good site that will convert the traffic. However, you stand a chance of your site getting band from the search engines a week later. All the traffic stops and no one wants to touch you.

My Thoughts on SEO

I build my sites for the site visitors and market them for the traffic. It’s Google’s job to make their search engines work, not mine. I’ve got no desire to build sites and cloak pages, not because it is wrong or want work but because I do NOT want to get a site banned. However, I agree with building a list of keywords and creating a page for each of those keywords with unique content one each page. I also agree with setting up an internal link structure that will let you pass the highest amount of pr to your best pages with your keywords for those pages being used as anchor text.

A site with 10,000 or more pages can even allow you to rotate your keywords for the internal pages.

But it’s all a waste of time if your site does not convert the traffic.

Can You Trust In Internet Marketing

Monday, June 16th, 2008

By: Gimmy leo

One of the most noteworthy technological developments in our generation is the Internet. With its ongoing growth in both capabilities and access, the online influence on our everyday lives becomes more significant every year. That appears to be even more true for 2007.

Along with the more Fun applications, income opportunities in Internet Marketing have inspired millions of people around the world, hoping to cash in on the new Gold Rush. The potential for online wealth is enormous, if you can believe the claims of those who apparently have achieved some success. However, for every opportunity that seems to work, there are many more that lead only to failure.

It has been said that somewhere between 95 and 99.9% of income opportunities found on the internet are at best antiquated or incomplete and at worst are out and out scams. If true, how does one, especially someone fairly new to working online, know what is a good opportunity vs. one that is a bad opportunity? In other words, How Does One Determine Who Can Be Trusted In Internet Marketing?

On one of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) websites, it is stated that: Trust makes up the essential glue that holds the rapidly expanding online market place together. But how do you gain trust when you normally cannot look into the eyes of the internet merchant, nor can you watch his/her body language or listen to voice inflections, little skills that have often helped when evaluating the trustworthiness of offline businesses.

Although online business presents different challenges, there are several things that can be done to help even an Internet Marketing newbie safely evaluate the millions of opportunities that exist online. Most of these activities are a combination of common sense and wisdom gained by others, including the author of this article. It is much better for you, the reader, to learn through the experience of someone else, than to pay for the same mistakes. Then, performing the relevant due diligence can save you much grief (and money).

The first, and arguably, the most important suggestion, is to avoid any opportunities that promise you the world. We have all seen the ads that Almost guarantee that you will make thousands of dollars a day/week/month/year with little or no experience or effort on your part. Even the Forty-Niners of the California Gold Rush 150 years ago expected that they would have to do Some work to become wealthy.

The second suggestion as you evaluate any opportunity is to understand what work actually is performed (and by whom) and where the money really comes from. Although the merchant is not going to tell you a whole lot about the business until you pay for the opportunity, normally there is enough information to provide clues in how it works (or does not work). If it seems too mysterious, more than likely you should pass on it.

Third, make sure that the offer provides some kind of refund policy of 100% (or more) over at least 30 days. Keep in mind, however, that a written guarantee is not an absolute guarantee; it is always possible that the business in question may be shutdown, go bankrupt, or be located in a foreign country and be unreachable. A written guarantee is but the beginning, without which the offer should be rejected at once.

To further research the online opportunity you have one of the most powerful tools available; the internet itself. The fourth suggestion is therefore to use available resources to search for online information that will help you determine how much the offer can be trusted.

One way to do this is to go to the Google website and type in the name of the product, program, or person. One other thing I usually do is to type Scam? after the name to see directly if there is any implication of it being a scam.

Then take a look at the information that comes up. Are there any negative indications? Quite often with Scam? I find one or more forums with the scam question asked followed by several comments about the value of the opportunity. Keep in mind, however, that everyone with a comment has some kind of bias (point of view).

In such places as forums where you may find discussions about the trustworthiness (or lack) of an opportunity, if you do not personally know the people making the statements, you need to ask yourself another related question: How do I know if I can trust what They are saying about the opportunity ?

If someone gives a very positive comment, they could be very honest and accurate or they may be an affiliate of the program (someone who sells the program to others) who is only interested in making money.

That is not to imply that all affiliates are corrupt (I promote affiliate products myself) but some affiliates know only what is listed in the sales letter and have no direct experience with the product. They therefore, do not really know how good/bad the opportunity actually is themselves.

If the statement is negative, that person could be a direct competitor and would benefit from such an attack. Both kinds of reviews are biased, but in a way different from the bias that is really useful to you.

As I said, all people have their point of view, including you, the reader. If you need help in evaluating the trustworthiness and effectiveness of an income opportunity, theoretically, the best person to hear from is someone who has a similar point of view and background as you, and who has actually used the opportunity in a fashion similar to the way that you would use it.

That person would then have achieved the same kind of level of success (or failure) as you would experience. To find such a person has normally been quite difficult, if not impossible. Until now.

A unique website (RatingsHub) exists which provides evaluations of many Internet Marketing opportunities based on direct experiences of hundreds of Internet Marketers. These individuals have a very broad spectrum of experience; from brand spanking new to well seasoned. To minimize the wrong kind of bias, no affiliate or ad sense links are present on the site.

This free resource exists to help everyone interested in starting a successful online business who seeks first hand knowledge in evaluating online opportunities. Everyone who visits the site is also invited to share as well their experiences with any product, program, or person. This tool may therefore also be useful in researching any Internet Marketing opportunity. Its link is listed in the Author/Bio section.

Another resource that may be useful in evaluating opportunities is Whois.net. By entering the relevant domain name (URL) of the merchant or opportunity, you may receive information about the owner and when the business was started. You may also be provided a physical address or phone number that may be used to contact them.

Another useful resource is the Better Business Bureau (BBB). You may go to their site (bbb.com) and input the appropriate address, phone number, or URL. If the company is known and has been operating long enough, a report may be generated with some useful information. If there have been any complaints made against the company or program they will be listed along with the status of their resolutions. This step has saved me on several occasions.

My Internet Business Mentor Reveals Secrets of What You Need To Know When Looking to Work From Home

Monday, June 16th, 2008

By: Geoff Harper

Although My Internet Business is relatively new, it’s success growth has a high comparison rate to that of the Google and Microsoft giants of today. But even with it’s phenomenal growth, what are the key ingredients that dictate an entrepreneur’s overall success when working from home?

1. The Company - If you have a strong company that has an impressive system and compensation plan, and a founder(s) whose competent, experienced, and has a track record of success, that speaks volumes.

Step 1 - Get behind a strong company.

2. The Mentorship - This can also fall under “teams” as well. If you’re partnered with an experienced and successful team that has proven themselves. Preferably an award winning highly recognized team such as. You want to partner with this team because they’re being recognized for duplicating success throughout their team, and doing a pretty good job at it.

Step 2 - Partner with a great award winning highly recognized team.

3. Simple Duplicatable Turn-key system - Now anyone can have a great company and incredible support and still not succeed in earning money online. What that person needs to do is do their due diligent research on the duplication rates within a team. The teams leaders must have a system of support and training that can be duplicated by anyone.

Step 3 - Team’s training system must be simple and easily duplicatable.

4. A Daily Method Of Operation - What should you be doing on a daily basis? A great mentor is likened unto a mother and/or father to their newborn baby (or in this case…newly recruited team member). Remember how the parents would rarely leave their newborn babies side? They’d always talk to them, help them…eventually teach them how to crawl, walk then run…until one day the parents are sitting in an auditorium watching their son or daughter walk across the stage to receive their diplomas…shedding small tears as admiration and pride fills their hearts knowing that their child will have a successful life based on what they’ve taught them. That’s what great mentors do. They’ll teach you everything you need/want to know and should be on call ready to assist you in any possible way that they can 24 hours a day…(That’s what I do for my team)

Step 4 - A Consistent Profit Generating DMO

Researchers say marketing the business upon the ground floor can have a big impact on an entrepreneur’s overall success. According to a recent Harris poll, 72% of American households are seriously considering launching a home based business. Another study indicates around 16-17 million people every day are burning up the search engines looking for a home based business. Economists predict that by mid-2009, that number will have tripled.

Top 5 SEO Benefits of Article Marketing

Monday, June 16th, 2008

By: Trish Calderon

It was 2005 when article marketing revolution began, from then on this industry has sky rocketed. Why not? Article marketing now swarms the worldwide web and proved itself to be a successful hit, most specially in affecting SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Here is the Top 5 SEO Benefits of Article Marketing:

Simplicity and cost-efficiency

Article writing costs you nothing. Upon submitting your articles, the rest is up to the people who would stumble upon your articles. And when website editors or sometimes even publishers find your articles useful and interesting enough, that’s when the magic begins.

Since every article has its own corresponding resource box with your information and most importantly, a link straight back to your website, there’s the magic. The magic of instant promotion! This simple procedure can help you in promoting your site name. Hence, making it more popular and at the same time profitable.

This is the way of article marketing, it is simple and semi-automatic. Why semi-automatic? It is because as long as you write useful and interesting articles, undoubtedly, you’re in good business. People will come and go your site and the counter will just keep on moving up. No need to do anything else but to keep your creative juices flowing. Simple enough, your creativity is your most precious capital.

Another thing, all the visits you get to your site will be all considered counted as qualified net traffic. It doesn’t matter if someone visits your website just to peek or to actually read your posted articles, just the same, they all fall under qualified visit. It is that simple.

Diversity

One dilemma for having a specific target audience is that diversity for what they want is almost limited. Consequently, what’s the use of everybody visiting your site when it really does not cater to what they need? You may have accumulated a lot of visits but it makes your website untrue to its purpose.

That’s when article marketing comes in the picture. Everything depends on how you segregate your articles. Not to mention how you tag your articles with witty titles so that it would be easy for web dwellers to trip on your articles online. You could submit your written articles to different databases using different headings all at the same time.

Worst case scenario. What if your site ranks down? It would definitely drag down your net traffic as well. Is it all over? The answer is no. Fortunately, because of the diversity, you can still expect visitors to your site.

Credibility

It is a common pitfall for many when they retrieve false information online. Indeed, credibility is one thing you can assure your visitors when they visit your site and read your articles. This is so important for SEO. People will definitely choose a site that they have already proven credible and trustworthy. That’s the good thing about a good visiting experience, satisfied visitors will surely come back for more.

Good article marketing builds reputation. Credibility comes naturally when you provide your readers with beneficial articles. Eventually, after people realize that you actually know what you are writing about, that’s when they tag you as a credible resource writer. This means good business for you. SEO favors a credible site without a doubt. Nothing is more precious than being trusted by your target audience.

Popularity and practicality

Article marketing works. This industry should have died down if it’s not effective. That’s why it is now so popular. It can do the same to your site. Having good articles would surely promote your site. Before you know it, you have already acquired several back-links to your site. You will be surprised how fast your articles will publish all over the net. This can happen very fast depending on the quality of your articles.

Your search engine ranking will be pulled up undoubtedly. And what’s great about this is that the whole process seems to be in auto-pilot. After sending out your articles, everything works automatically already. Less effort in your part. Not to mention the legitimacy issue of article marketing over directory submissions.

Efficiency

So how can you improve net traffic to your website? Sure you have articles to back you up but what else do you need? Make sure you don’t just write articles, you need to make sure you write top grade articles. That’s the key ingredient in this industry.

Moreover, good article marketing assures you a richer flavor to your site. Aside from creative articles, you can also make use of your creativity to make your site more interactive or even with a personal touch. This method will definitely boost your search engine ranking. That’s what I call efficient.

If you’re looking for the best articles to populate your site with, ArticleShark is where you can get free articles that will suit your niche.

Ranking dropped from the top spots in Search Engines

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

By: brayan.peter

You often hear this complaint that my search engine ranking has dropped. This is only to be expected as Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other engines are constantly in a state of flux. Most webmasters are caught unaware when they suddenly discover their ranking has dropped and the traffic has dwindled.

Those who are making money online, losing ranks can adversely affect their earnings. Still worse, for those who are abjectly dependent on websites for their livelihoods, losing all search engine traffic can be simply disastrous.

When sites lose traffic and drop down in the rankings, the one thing everyone immediately thinks of is - a penalty has been applied to their sites. Penalties are certainly applied by search engines but only when you have resorted to some undesirable activity like using cloaking, hidden text, doorway pages, keyword stuffing or link farms etc.

Recovering from a penalty is long-drawn, but it is relatively simple. First, remove all suspicious stuff from your site including everything that a search engine might detest. Once you are certain there is nothing left on your domain that can be even remotely deemed fishy, then file a reinclusion request with the concerned search engine.

Most of us in the field of search marketing are often obsessed with the ranking and try to make search engine ranking more complicated than it really is. There are innumerable ways to build a link. One could employ a range of keywords and adopt many innovative sources to drive traffic.

The one popular method most people use is keyword density. There is no denying that if use the right and relevant keywords at appropriate places will got you the top rankings. It is advisable to use the keyword once or even a second time a variation of the keyword in the title tag provided it makes meaning and does not appear artificially thrust. The keyword may be deployed minimum three times in the content or if the content is large, a few more times. You can also make the keyword appear once in bold type. Make sure the keyword appears once in the alt tag of an image and again once in the URL. Avoid using keyword in link anchor text on the page itself. It is pointless indiscriminately over using the keywords all over the page, as it will not produce the expected results - although you may derive some extra value by going wild.

There is what is known as Page Rank or link power. You can achieve this by providing internal links from your own site and external links from other sites. Here lies the secret. A page with an extraordinary amount of link power rank remarkably well in Google and Yahoo even if the sources are not particularly relevant and the keywords are sparingly used. This may not apply to MSN and certain other search engines which focus largely on keyword and subject on hand.

Next, we should understand the importance of what those familiar with search engine call anchor text. By weighting the keywords and phrases pages used to link, browsers could get a clearer idea about the page contents and their relevance to particular subjects. The anchor text of links is becoming a critical part of the ranking equation, and if found abundantly, it can overshadow many other ranking factors. One can cite instances of web pages that are weak in all the other factors but ranking high primarily because they have acquired countless links with the precise anchor text of the phrase.

Domain Authority is an assured way to feel your presence in the internet. To achieve this, you must operate your site in conformity with the engines established guidelines. Ensure you get lots of trustworthy sites to link to you. Merely being top-ranked in search engines will not do. You must exercise vigil and constantly monitor your behavior to stay at the top. Any indiscretion on your part can create problems again.

7 Ways To Make Your Site Sticky

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

By: mfleischner

Today more than ever, consumers are overwhelmed with choices, and distractions. The cost of attracting users to your website continues to increase and keeping them engaged is more important than ever.

Engagement doesn’t end with an individual browser reading content or clicking on an ad. Rather, engagement is an ongoing process that results in loyal customers who come back again and again, becoming more vested in your web site.

How can you make sure you’re engaging and keeping customers?

In order to create a loyal following, there are some basic principles you need to consider. From first impressions to life-long membership, put yourself in the shoes of your browsers and make their experience a valuable one.

1. Reduce Clutter. How many times have you visited a website only to be overwhelmed and confused? What is this site about you may have asked yourself. Or perhaps you found yourself asking, ‘Where is the information I’m looking for?’

Don’t ask your browsers or potential customers to figure this out. Make your site clutter free and create a visual priority that emphasizes the information, resources, or actions your browsers want. By reducing obstacles you build trust among new web site visitors and allow for simple decision making - which benefits everyone.

2. Make Navigation Intuitive. There are many ways to navigate a web page but intuition rules the day. Don’t try to get fancy with your navigation or overuse java script. Basic navigation that follows current convention is the best way to lead individuals through your web site to the information they’re looking for.

3. Make The Initial Site Interaction Relevant. When a browser reaches your web site, you have less than seven seconds to get them engaged. Making your initial site interaction relevant to what individuals are looking for is essential for keeping them interacting long term.

If you are promoting your web site with Google Adwords, or any pay per click advertising for that matter, be sure to create customer landing pages that are truly relevant to the individual who clicks-through your ad. Once you’ve established relevancy, you can move them deeper into your content, tools, and resources.

4. Ensure That Your Content Is Up-to-date. Web site content that isn’t up to date does not serve your audience and browsers are likely to move on. One way to ensure that information is timely is by providing a feed of relevant news or information. If including static text on your web pages, try not to include specific dates. However, if you must publish dates, be sure to update this information on a regular basis.

5. Start An Interaction With Your Users. Each time a browser views your web page, you have an opportunity to interact with them. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. One great way to interact is to offer something of value at no cost. This can be a white paper, access to an exclusive list, or simply a 30 day free trial. Be sure to capture an individual’s valid email address and include them on your mailing list. An auto-responder is best if you wish to engage these individuals on an ongoing basis.

6. Provide Plenty Of Support. Don’t hesitate to offer support right from your home page. Prominently display your 800 number, support email address, and additional information for your prospects and customers such as mailing address. This information is viewed favorably by search engines and also creates a sense of legitimacy. Contact information builds trust among prospects and elicits interest in your company.

7. Make Sharing Easy. Once you’ve made your web site easy to use, don’t hesitate to offer browsers the ability to share your web site with others. This can be in the form of a simple widget that allows users to bookmark your page, subscribe to an Rss feed, or submit your content to popular news sites like Digg.com.

Individuals are much more likely to visit a web site based on a friend’s recommendation versus some other type of marketing initiative. Leverage the power of viral marketing with easy sharing tools.

Your web site can be your greatest asset. Unfortunately, many marketers and website owners are so focused on increasing traffic that they lose site of the audience that’s already visiting their web pages but are simply not converting.

Don’t make the same mistake. Improve the quality of you site through relevant content that is up-to-date and easy to find. Once you’ve engaged users, encourage them to share. Doing so will make your site perform better, increase conversions, and deliver value for all involved.

Four Easy And Fast Ways Get Free Traffic To Your Web Site.

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

By: Andy Machin

Traffic is the lifeblood of any web site. Without any visitors to your site nobody is going to see it. And if that was the case then what would be the point creating your site in the first place? In the paragraphs that follow I will cover five simple ways you can attract traffic and visitors to your web site without even spending as much as one penny.

1. Exchange Links

Link exchanges are quite possibly the simplest method of traffic generation. Think about it. How many sites do you visit which do not have a links page. Not many. And how many links pages do you visit and then visit a site from that links page. Quite a few.

It’s easy too. Simply approach fellow webmasters with sites in the same or similar niche to yours and offer to trade links with them. Some will, some will not but each link successfully exchanged is a potential long term source of traffic for your site.

2. Join Traffic Exchanges

Think of traffic exchanges as link exchanges with a twist. You submit your site to the traffic exchange and then surf other members’ sites to accumulate credits with the traffic exchange. The more credits you accumulate the more your site is shown to other members of the same traffic exchange. The theory behind this is that all members benefit from their efforts.

There are plenty of traffic exchanges out there to try and chose from. No need to fork out a joining fee mostly either. Seek out the top exchanges by using your favourite search engine and give it a try to see if it makes a difference to the number of visitors to your own site.

3. Article Submission

Article directories are an excellent source of traffic and web site visitors. And writing an article is extremely easy. If you can write a few paragraphs on something you have an interest in then you can write an article.

Write an article which matches or is related to the subject of your site and submit it to the leading article directories. Include a brief description of your site in the resource box together with a link back to your site.

Now anybody who reads your article may click on the resource box link and visit your site. Write multiple articles, say one a week, and your have multiple chances of attracting visitors time and time again.

4. Participate in Communities and Forums

Seek out online communities and forums which are relevant to the subject of your web site. Jump in to conversations and share your knowledge of your subject with like minded people. May forums and communities allow you to place a link in your signature which accompanies each post you make. That link is another free source of potential traffic for you as it will be seen by everyone who reads your postings.

So there we are. Four very simple and no cost ways anyone can use to attract traffic to their web sites. Why not give it a try?

10 Free SEO tricks you can do to your site today

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

By: Jeremy Morgan

Have you ever wanted to drop thousands of dollars to have an SEO go through your site? Of course you have, but chances are as a small business you don’t have the funding, or aren’t comfortable with the risk of hiring a pro. So the question I’m often asked is, can I do it myself? The answer is yes, good SEOs are not born, they’re made, and you can do some simple and free things without hiring anyone or spending hours studying search engine algorithms. Here are some free SEO tips you use on your website tonight.

1. Build a sitemap.

I can’t stress this one enough. Build a sitemap, and search engines will follow. Even if it’s just a list of links on a page named sitemap.html, it’s good enough. Going out and building one according to sitemaps protocol and submitting them is even better.

2. Make your title and description enticing.

While meta tags aren’t the powerful SEO tool they used to be, search engines still use them to build a description in your listing. Make it something enticing that people will want to click. Don’t load it up with keywords, because it wont help anyway. Just make a quick message that gets them to click. Do the same with your title tag. That way when you get high rankings, people click them!

3. Make your title tags and metatags unique for each page.

Make sure the description tag and title tag is unique for every page, and describes the content of the site. (Don’t load it up with keywords). This will get more click throughs from your results, and more listings because search engines favor unique pages.

4. Get a good link from an established page.

Getting pages spidered is tough. But submitting them to search engines can take weeks. Submit as you usually would, but try to get a good link from an established site. This will get you crawled much faster.

5. Give up on keyword stuffing.

In 2002, keyword stuffing worked great. In 2008, it’s all about natural language. Google and other search engines are actively penalizing for keyword stuffing, so don’t get caught in that trap. While you want to include keywords, don’t overdo it. Read it aloud to yourself and ask “does this sound natural?”. If not, consider rewriting your text.

6. Avoid duplicates.

Are you linking back to your page with index.html in the url? This creates duplicates, as does having multiple pages with the same content. If you have a subdomain thats in a folder, use robots.txt to keep it from being spidered. Any duplicate content will end up hurting you in the long run.

7. Use alt tags and description tags.

Use image alt tags and href description tags to your advantage. Don’t overdo it, but make sure and include something in there that will indicate what the picture or link is about. As long as it’s done right, it will help you, but stuffing it with keywords will hurt. Find a happy balance.

8. Avoid Javascript or flash navigation.

While this stuff looks great, it’s not helpful for search engines. Make sure and include a backup text navigation in case flash or javascript is turned off. This helps the spiders find other pages on your site.

9. Get as much text as you can on your site.

Text is the fuel that feeds search engines. The more text, the better. Don’t stuff it with keywords, but don’t keep a few sentences on every page. Build as much text as you can, and keep it unique and tasteful.

And last, but certainly not least:

10. Focus on your content.

As they always say, content is king. Focus on getting unique, useful content on your page. This is where most of your efforts should be placed. Update frequently, and don’t delete pages later. The more unique and relevant content your site contains, the better you’ll do, so don’t skip it! Give as much information as you possibly can, and make it interesting and fun.

These tips should help you get started on the path to better search engine traffic!

Selling your website and wondering where to sell it online?

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

By: Tim Corbeil-19016

WebsiteBids: a potential place to sell your website!

As the owner of the web based business, I sell basic websites and offer extended services to my customers should they require them. My biggest problem has been marketing my product. I needed to find areas on the web where I could list my websites and be seen by many potential” buyers. Sites like eBay, Sitepoint, Digitalpoint and DealaSite are some of the sites I have found during my search efforts. These sites offer some promising results, however, they all have their downfalls which I will elaborate on.

Open forum style website listings:

DigitalPoint offers a forum section where you can list your website for sale by way of forum threads. To be eligible to start a thread in the said section, you must serve a minimum forum participation requirement. Once met, you are free to list as you please! Your thread will be seen by many and the forum is always busy. One downfall: The forum is extremely busy to the point where your thread is off to the second page in a matter of several minutes and the second page is considered old news”. The site rules state: Please do NOT bump your thread or you will receive a minor infraction”. I received one the other day when I simply wanted to clarify my listing to avoid confusion and that clarification was flagged as an infraction. Selling a website on DigitalPoint works if you happen to have the right audience at the time you list your auction.

SitePoint offers a similar forum in their marketplace. One major difference from DigitalPoint to SitePoint is that auction listings are a paid service ($10.00/listing). In my opinion, with a paying service, there is more quality in the sites that are listed for sale. In other words, auction listings that are listed are websites that have value, establishment and worthiness. But just as DigitalPoint, SitePoint is a rather busy site too, where your listing will find itself going from the first page to the second page rather quickly causing your chances of selling your website to diminish. In my case however, paying the auction listing fee for a dozen sites that are new, will become expensive rather quickly. And given that my listings will be seen anywhere from half a day to a day on the first page, if they don’t sell in that time frame, I highly doubt they would sell at all. While considering the value at which I sell my websites, paying the site listing fee is simply not economical.

Auction style listings:

eBay, a well established site and community, has been around for a long time. I have and currently use eBay to auction off websites and must say, with the websites that I sell, eBay works well for me. Well” being relative as it could be better”. The listing fees are within reason but in my experience, considering the virtual nature of a website, I don’t believe the viewing audience for potential buyers is all that it could be. I have had websites listed for 10 days and by the tenth day, the traffic counter was rather low. In fact, rather disappointing at times. Another factor is that the site offers many different topic listings where someone could easily get lost when surfing for a particular item. The reason I say this is because I once tested looking for an auction listing I listed. I did a search, went from page to page in the topic I listed my auction in and was not able to find my own listing given the time remaining” reference left in my auction.

DealaSite is not a bad site. The best thing about DealaSite is that listings are free! Another good point is that you are required to input specific details when listing your website for auction. This eliminates many unnecessary questions from potential buyers. I use DealaSite to sell websites and I have had some” success in the service. One downfall to point out is that there is no enforcement for bidders who place bids and change their mind once the auction has completed. It’s happened to me several times where I contacted the highest bidder to complete a sale only to find out the bidder is no longer interested. It is not the end of the world but it is somewhat frustrating as other potential bidders are not bidding due to a false” high bid set in place. If you are looking for a free service, it is one of the better free” services out there for selling a website.

WebsiteBids:

Considering the drawbacks to the above services, I came up with an idea in hopes to help others, like me, who are serious about selling their website(s). I recently launched a new auction website called WebsiteBids where the site’s sole purpose is to auction off websites. The site is new to the web and being so, I have set forth many promotional offers to attract customers to the site and encourage them to make use of the service. Every site ever launched had to start somewhere so I urge you not to shut out the service due to it being new”, but rather to consider the site’s potential benefits it may provide a few years down the road. One of our current promotions, for example, is for new users to register and create an authentic auction of a website they are selling, free of charge, while in return, that user will get endless credit applied to their account. (Yes the listing fees are currently free to allow a client base to grow, but will not always be and you will be one of the first 50 individuals to never have to pay for an auction listing! ) Should your business revolve around selling websites, WebsiteBids also offers stores (similar to eBay) for you to make use of to increase viewing traffic. Lastly, and as indicated above, the site listing fees are free however, the site will eventually charge a small listing fee as a means to pay for maintenance, bandwidth, hosting fees and support personnel.

I sincerely want to thank you for reading my article. I welcome everyone to the website and encourage you to help me populate it in the efforts to build a fine community of people with similar interests!

Kindest regards,
Tim Corbeil

Branding and Duplication- Two Essential Aspects of Internet Marketing

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Anyone who has been involved in an MLM, Network Marketing, or other online business knows that there is unlimited potential for income in these arenas. But not everyone knows how to grab it. Two critical components of any successful internet marketing plan are branding and duplication.

Branding, Webster ’s New Millenium dictionary defines this as: “in marketing, the use of logos, symbols, or product design to promote consumer awareness of goods and services.”

What exactly does that mean to your network marketing business? It means that it is simply not enough to “sell” your program or company. You must sell the whole package, which includes YOU. You, as the sponsor, mentor, supporter or your team as the sponsoring team, mentoring team, and supporting/supportive team.

How do you “brand” yourself online? You make yourself available and transparent. Have your picture on any site you can. Create a “who is” page where your prospect can go to “meet” you. They can learn about your history and what you have to offer them. Don’t worry if you don’t personally have a ton of experience, you must have access to people who have experience, or possibly the team you’ve joined has a large amount of experience. This is called branding. I have my number, e-mail address, and website on every e-mail.

Now that you have branded yourself, you need to make yourself duplicatable. You need to make sure that your prospects can duplicate what you do.

Duplication is what makes your new members successful. No one wants to reinvent the wheel and no one wants to feel completely alone and that they have to figure things out on their own. Make sure that what you are doing can be done by your new members as well.

If you are offering something so outrageous that only you can offer it, then you are doing your new members an injustice. What will happen is that no one will want to join your new members they will only want to join you - so you will be successful until word gets out that no one who joined with you was able to duplicate your success.

Yes, you need to offer something of yourself, and that obviously can’t be duplicated. But don’t offer such a huge discount that no one else will be able to afford to give someone that same discount - thereby guaranteeing that anyone is going to want to join with you instead. Don’t offer so much assistance in advertising (offering $1000 in advertising to get them started) that no one else can do the same - very few people JUST getting started can offer this. Instead, offer training, offer support, and offer some reasonable amounts of advertising help.

To recap, two critical steps to your success with an online business are branding and duplication. Branding means to make YOU and what you stand for clear and easily found online.

To make yourself duplicatable, make sure that whatever you are doing (advertising, offering advertising help, etc…) is not of such a huge magnitude that no one else can also offer the same thing, and therefore taking new members away from your members and guaranteeing their failure.

Harvesting Organic Keywords for SEO

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

The importance of evaluating the effects of SEO over time using analytics is imperative for your optimization efforts.

It is important to establish a time-line for how long your keywords stay buoyant before they need to be reinvigorated so they remain upwardly mobile.

It is imperative to go back and reassess each of your contributing keywords to ensure that they are properly nourished and don’t just drop out of sight. What you ranked for a month ago may not in fact be what you rank for today.

It is no secret that eye-tracking studies conclude that positioning above the fold has higher conversion rates. So, employing a touch of link insurance is not a bad idea.

Three things to consider freshening up:
* The Root Modifiers, they are the reason broad match keywords yield relevant results
* The Money Phrases, (Quote, FREE, Services, Company, Consultation, etc.)
* Monitoring the affects of adding new content and links over time

Every time you add a page of content, you are affecting and increasing the overall mathematical word count of your site. If the content is not structured with intent, you can unintentionally dilute the theme of your site by impacting site-wide keyword and word density counts. Building enough links is also a crucial component to this equation.

I am not implying to stop adding content, on the contrary use this information to keep a higher threshold for the keywords that are important. This the the time to see how your pages are fairing, so you can shore up dwindling rankings.

Use those same phrases and ensure each of your main ranking pages are not starved for links. I am not proposing methods, just bringing awareness to the phenomenon of link insurance (just because links were there a year ago, does not mean that they are still passing juice). You have to make sure the page is indexed and crawled to determine what it provides, otherwise just build fresh links.

Ranking for competitive phrases requires a different strategy than ranking for broad-match or long tail phrases. Naturally, having a balance of each is nice, since link and keyword diversification are a form of insulation.

The point is, the more content, the more links you will need to steer the off page factors in the right direction. At least, the right kind of links. Most pages rely on the strength of the domain and the internal links it provides to the page. Many pages have less than 25 backlinks externally referencing a site, yet they rank consecutively in the top 10 for a multiple keywords (often inadvertently as a result of link weight).

The concept of balancing the content to type of links should be elementary to most, but it wasn’t until I was using a few SEO tools and was seeing key phrases being diluted as a result of writing on a daily basis. To most, this would not be a concern, however, once again we need to know when to cap certain effects so that we can proportionately refine our focus to maintain certain rankings.

It is through on page adjustments to site structure, internal links or content that you have the ability to augment long-term rankings. By selecting a range of themed semantically related keywords (from analytics / keyword research). You could asses the keyword longevity (how long it ranked well) and link insurance (freshening up older links) saturate a niche (over time) by using those keywords tactfully throughout future content.

Each page of well written content that deep links to other pages can add life to those pages and set them on their own ranking spree as a result. As your entire site gains momentum (like a juggernaut imbued with authority) each new phrase is yet another notch on your measuring stick in your repetior of keywords that convert.

So, the value of going back to sift through the data of the past and formulate a solid strategy for the future growth is a great method to assess your relevance score (for those keywords in your site).

Backlinking You Way To Success

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Backlinks raise your ranking on the search engines so the more backlinks to your site the higher you placed for relavent search terms. Most search engines do not consider the hyperlinks as backlinks in ranking. Documents do not only have links going to other documents, but backlinks of documents referring to them. Much as traditional bibliographies tell much about how important a document is, backlinks can describe how important a document is. Put simply, useful documents tend to have many links pointing to them, and documents on one subject tend to link to useful documents on that same subject.

Of course you want the trajectory of your site in the upward direction so what do you do to get backlinks? There are many options to get backlinks like exchanging links for example but here you must also note that a one-way link holds more strength than a two-way link. The safest bet for one-way backlinks is signing up with high quality web directories. A completely clean interface that is easy to search and with no 3rd party advertising you can say goodbye to any disturbing banner ads.

You might wonder why sites provide such a precious asset as backlinks for free. The answer is simple they need content for their site. When you post an article, or submit a link to your site, you do not get paid for this. You provide them for free with something they need content and in return they also provide you for free with something you need quality backlinks. It is a free trade, as long as the sites you post your content or links are respected and you don’t post fake links or content.

Backlinks are important to climb the page ranking in the search engines. Backlinks tell the search engines that you have a site of interest to others who have linked to it. Your marketing campaign for your sites, has to include the effort of obtaining links. Links can be bought or you can obtain them for free, simply by listing in directories. Beware though, that submitting to directories takes time, a very tedious task.

Generally search engines index forums so posting in forums and blogs is also a way to get quality backlinks with the anchor text you want. If the forum or blog is a respected one, a backlink is valuable. However, in some cases the forum or blog administrator can edit your post, or even delete it if it does not fit into the forum or blog policy. Also, sometimes administrators do not allow links in posts, unless they are relevant ones. In some rare cases (which are more an exception than a rule) the owner of a forum or a blog would have banned search engines from indexing it and in this case posting backlinks there is pointless.

There is much discussion in these last few months about reciprocal linking. In the last Google update, reciprocal links were one of the targets of the search engine ’s latest filter. Many webmasters had agreed upon reciprocal link exchanges, in order to boost their site ’s rankings with the sheer number of inbound links. In a link exchange, one webmaster places a link on his website that points to another webmasters website, and vice versa. Many of these links were simply not relevant, and were just discounted. So while the irrelevant inbound link was ignored, the outbound links still got counted, diluting the relevancy score of many websites. This caused a great many websites to drop off the Google map.

Please note that quality backlinks and relevant backlinks are two very important considerations for SEO. A backlink from a site that has quality content is reffered as quality backlinks or relevant backlinks. Relevant backlinks will hold you in a much better stead than a back link coming from a poorly designed or optimized site Or from a site that has nothing to do with the theme of your site. The major search engines such as google see incoming links from relevant sites, and give them more rank compared a backlink from an unrelated site. For example, if you have a website about web design products, your link strategy should target web design related sites.

Many webmasters have more than one website. Sometimes these websites are related, sometimes they are not. You have to also be careful about interlinking multiple websites on the same IP. If you own seven related websites, then a link to each of those websites on a page could hurt you, as it may look like to a search engine that you are trying to do something fishy. Many webmasters have tried to manipulate backlinks in this way; and too many links to sites with the same IP address is referred to as backlink bombing

Very Important Rules Of Website Marketing

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

This, of course, begs the question as to what rules comprise this logical, success based approach. While there are no absolutes that guarantee website development marketing success, there is a number of “tried and true” website marketing rules that will improve any strategy. These rules are worth examining.

Chart your goals. First and foremost, any website marketing strategy needs clearly defined goals along with a clear plan to achieve them. This will aid greatly in keeping any marketing plan on target and focused.

For example, if you are selling a product you may have a goal of increased sales. In order to do this, you have to spell out exactly HOW you plan to increase sales. Also, the intended time frame for achieving the goal should be spelled out.

This way, if you are not on target for meeting your goals, then the website development marketing strategy can be tweaked and modified. But this can only be accomplished if a clear goal is sought at the very beginning. You can’t revise something that never existed in the first place.

Keywords! More than anything,
