Crystal Report

Crystal reports are used to make any type of simple or complex reports.Built in report expert guides user for step by step building of reports. Using that report wizard one can easily make reports. It helps user to add fields and specify grouping, summarization and sorting criteria which user wants. And users can format the report as per theirre criteria. There are different formatting criterias available in this. Users can also make theirre own formulas or add special field in reports. User can use formulas to calculate numeric values, compare two values and for many more purposes. 

Report creation wizard have mainly four types of methods for creating reports.

· Standard

· Cross-tab

· Mail-Label

· OLAP

Standard report creation wizard : Standard report creation wizard is the most generic wizard for creating reports.

Cross-tab report creation wizard : In this data is displayed as cross-tab.

Mail-Label report creation wizard : This type of  wizard helps thelets user to create a report that is formatted to print on any size mailing label. User can use the Label screen to select a commercial label type, or users can define their own layout of rows and columns for any multi-column style report.

OLAP report creation wizard : This type of  wizard helps the lets user to create a report in which OLAP data is displayed as a grid object. And it is mostly similar to cross-tab report wizard.

In crystal reports we have design tab. given.

There are main five sections onf it : Report Header, Page Header, Details, Page Footer, Report Footer. User can add multiple sections also.

And we also can see the preview for that using print preview from menu.  Sso now we can get two tabs -  one is for design and another one is for preview.  With the help of preview tab,,So we can easily see the preview of our report.

Crystal report is having one good feature that is subreport.We can make report within report means we can add one report in primary (main) report it is called subreport.

Subreport has all the characteristics  of Crystal which report have except that it can not include subreport in it.There are two types of subreports.

  • Unlinked
  • Linked
  • Unlinked Subreports : In Tthis type of report data is not any way related to the
primary report. Means unlinked subreports are free-standing. An unlinked subreport does not use the same data as the primary report. It can use same or different types of data sources. And unlinked subreport can be based on single or multiple tables.
  • Linked Subreports : Linked subreports are opposite to the unlinked subreport
means in this type of report data is corresponding to primary report. When we link a subreport with primary report, the program creates link by using parameter field a. And parameter field in the subreport is used to retrieve values passed to it by  primary report.
